How United Networks of America is helping Kids Like Nate

Nate pictured with his father Michael is happy, active and full of life.

Nate is a happy, playful 2-year-old, who likes trains, dinosaurs, and playing in his sandbox. You would never know that what happened in October of 2015, was a time that changed his parents forever. His mother, April a registered nurse, and father Michael, a retired paramedic began to notice a change in behavior of the then 6-month-old.

Nate would begin to twitch uncontrollably, and then a few seconds later return to his normal self.  All signs and symptoms pointed to seizure activity, so April and Michael took him immediately to his pediatrician, where they were quickly directed to Levine Children’s Hospital for advanced treatment.

With the help, love, and prayers from staff, family and friends, Nate was released less than 48 hours later. Today, Nate is doing great without any more signs or symptoms.

“The hospital staff was the best in the world – from registration, monitor techs, nurses and physicians – they all took care of Nate with a level of care that neither me or his mom had seen before,” said Michael.

Michael now works as the regional manager for a North Carolina Drug Card from United Networks of America, a proud partner of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. He works diligently every day to make sure the organization is raising funds to provide the life-saving care that helps kids like his own.

United Networks of America (UNA) is a pharmacy benefits manager that has created a prescription drug card program to assist consumers with purchasing their medications. The State RX Card program raises funds for local CMN Hospitals through each use. Transactions in January alone added up to over $60,219. To date, UNA has donated over $1.1 million to fund critical programs, patient services, charitable care and more for local member hospitals.  The State RX Card is designed to work alongside health insurance. Anyone who is uninsured or underinsured can register for this free card and present it to pharmacies to receive a discount on medications.
